A Texas couple gave birth to a baby girl in the bathroom of a Chick-fil-A Wednesday night when they couldn’t make it to the hospital.
“I thinks it’s pretty ironic that a proud conservative, Christian family would have a baby in a Chick-fil-A, and wrapped in a Trump 2020 T-shirt,” the baby’s father, Robert Griffin, wrote in his Facebook post that has gone viral with more than 47,000 shares as of Thursday.
The Griffins were headed to Chick-fil-A to hand off their other daughters to a friend on their way to the hospital, but when they arrived, Griffin’s wife — who was already in labor — had to use the restroom.
The Chick-fil-A was closed, but the workers let them in.
“So there we were…..my wife and I in a tiny stall in the bathroom, and I could see the top of our little girls head crowning as Maggie was straddling the toilet. I told Maggie, ‘sweetie, we are gonna have to do this right here, right now.’ After shouting to the manager to call 911 and to bring any clean towels, Maggie and I started delivering our baby,” Griffin wrote.
Once Maggie started pushing and the baby’s shoulders were exposed, Robert realized the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck twice. Not wanting to scare his wife, he got her to relax and was able to unwrap the cord.
“With two more strong pushes, and using [the Trump 2020] shirt for a towel, out came Gracelyn Mae Violet Griffin.”
The Griffins relayed vitals to paramedics over the phone, who were 15 minutes away. In the meantime, Chick-fil-A employees helped by warming up towels in the kitchen and bringing them for baby Gracelyn, according to the Facebook post.
Both mother and baby came out of the emergency delivery healthy.
“Her birth certificate reads ‘born in Chick-fil-A’ and the hospital had me sign the birth certificate as the attending physician,” Griffin wrote.
