Italy’s Interior Minister Praises Trump And Putin Talks Following Helsinki Summit

Italy’s Minister of the Interior Matteo Salvini praised U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin following a Helsinki summit meeting, in a tweet Monday.

Salvini congratulated Trump and Putin. “Good work, presidents!” he tweeted Monday morning. The Italian politician, known for his firm stance against illegal immigration, said that he would like the next summit meeting to take place in Italy to further discuss security, peace, work, and economic growth.

“I would like the next summit meeting to be held in Italy to speak with strength and courage of security, peace, work, and economic growth. Good work, presidents!” Salvini tweeted.

Salvini also met with Russian Ministerof the Interior Vladimir Kolokoltsev to discuss illegal immigration and Islamic terrorism during a meeting in Russia Monday, according to a tweet by the Italian politician.

Salvini previously came under fire for refusing to allow the Aquarius, a rescue boat carrying migrants from Libya, to dock in Italy in June.
