EU Will Host ‘Mini-Summit’ To Go Over Migration Policy

The European Union will host a “mini-summit” to go over migration policy during a conference in Brussels Sunday.

Jean-Claude Juncker, the president of the European Commission, said that European leaders will meet to discuss asylum and migration issues at an informal working meeting, according to a tweet Wednesday. Leaders of European member states will convene to discuss strategies to curtail migration issues ahead of the EU’s larger summit meeting on June 28 to 29. 

“I am convening an informal working meeting on migration and asylum issues in Brussels on Sunday, in order to work with a group of Heads of State or Government of Member States interested in finding European solutions ahead of the upcoming,” Juncker tweeted.

The “informal meeting” is expected to discuss EU borders, how to distribute refugees and asylum processing centers. France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Greece, and Bulgaria are planning on attending, according to Deutsche Welle.

Merkel called the main EU summit meeting due to pressure from German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer to create a solution to migration issues and border security in Germany, according to TIME Monday.
