CNN devoted an entire segment to video game addiction on “New Day” Monday, citing reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) and network medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta.

The clip begins with a mother expressing concern over her son’s video game habit, while dramatic music played in the background. A graphic then appears with the words “MENTAL HEALTH CONDITION” written in red over an exploding video game controller.

This is the first time the WHO is classifying “gaming disorder” as a mental health issue, according to CNN.

Gupta said young gamers are getting a rush of euphoria similar to that of recreational drugs, and claimed their frontal lobes are being impaired, affecting their ability to exercise self control.

“It can cause the same kind of euphoria,” Gupta told “New Day.” “What is really interesting is that when you start to actually become an addict your frontal lobes, the area of the brain that gives you the judgment to say stop playing, I need to stop, those frontal lobes become impaired so it becomes increasingly difficult for an addict to stop even if they have the best intentions.”
