Democratic House candidate Steven Horsford took his party’s nomination with 64 percent of the vote in Nevada’s 4th Congressional District Tuesday night, placing him against Republican Cresent Hardy who won his party’s nomination with more than 45 percent of the vote.

Horsford enjoyed support form the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and was overwhelmingly favored for his win, having held the seat prior to 2014. But Hardy, his opponent in November, defeated Horsford in 2014, though he then lost his seat in the subsequent 2016 election. It remains to be seen whether Hardy can take a win over Horsford yet again and secure an essential seat in the House for the GOP come November.

Horsford’s win spells a victory for more centrist Democrats in Nevada, as he was challenged by Bernie Sanders-style Democrats Patricia Spearman and Amy Vilela. The win could prove to be emblematic as centrist democrats across the country continue to be challenged from the left.

Hardy joined the Republican bench relatively late, only announcing his candidacy in January 2018. Upon discussion with his family, however, he decidedto take up the race and attempt to take back his old seat.
