Google Doodle accoladed the 20th century Turkish ceramic artist Füreya Koral in what would be her 108th birthday Tuesday.
Koral, born in 1910 and originally from Istanbul, was honored by the online platform for her unique work in the 20th century, the Daily Mail reported. The monumental artist originally wanted to become a doctor. However, upon recovering from tuberculosis in a Swiss sanatorium in 1947, she began her art career as a gifted ceramic artist. She later received art training in Lausanne in 1949 and opened her studio in Istanbul around two years later. Her Instanbul studio became the forefront for Turkish artists.
The artist’s techniques included making three-dimensional artwork as well as vases and plates. She also combined Eastern and Western styles to craft unique pieces of art, according to the Ministry of Art and Culture in Turkey. The Turkish artist also practiced the violin and even wrote music criticisms.
Google on Tuesday marked the 108th birthday of Turkey’s first female ceramic artist Fureya Koral. Google showed a caricature of Koral working with ceramic at a table with her tools.
