CNN commentator Ana Navarro said the White House is “irritated” that GOP Sen. John McCain of Arizona hasn’t succumbed to his cancer yet and chastised the staff for making light of his disease, Tuesday on “New Day.”
“I think frankly what’s happening here is that the White House is irritated that John McCain is not dying of cancer, he’s living with cancer,” Navarro said. “And he is choosing to make every single day on this earth something that’s meaningful and counts. And he is still confronting [President] Donald Trump for his outrageous — he is still speaking conscience and conviction and principle. He’s reminding Republicans what we used to be.”
McCain is hurting the administration with his views on torture, Navarro said and thinks the White House’s attitude towards him has been hurtful to his family.
“It’s very irritating I suspect to the White House on this torture issue, because McCain speaks with a moral fortitude that few can. That of a man who was actually tortured for years, who has experienced it in his own bones and his own skin and has got the literal scars to show for it,” Navarro said.
“John McCain is not dying with cancer, he is living with cancer,” she concluded. “And for you to continue saying that when you know how hurtful it is to the family is something I don’t understand. But well, you know, we all have a First Amendment right. I do think that the White House should have apologized.”
Navarro’s calls for an apology come after she called Trump mentally ill in August and later doubled down on her comments, calling him “the biggest jerk in the world.”
