Flight Attendants Are Now Joining #MeToo Movement

Flight attendants are now joining the #MeToo movement due to a large percentage of employees reporting sexual harassment according to a survey released Friday.

Approximately 70% of flight attendants experience sexual harassment, according to the survey results of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) union, The Daily Mail reported. Another 68% of survey recipients claimed that airlines did not take proper action to curtail the sexual harassment.  The AFA received responses from 3,500 flight attendants from 29 different airlines and received responses from 80% of women and another 20% of men.

 “The time when flight attendants were objectified in airline marketing and people joked about ‘coffee, tea, or me’ needs to be permanently grounded. #TimesUp for the industry to put an end to its sexist past,” said Sarah Nelson, the union’s president.

“Harassment of flight attendants is legendary, but this survey shows just how commonplace it remains even during the #MeToo era,” Nelson added. (RELATED: Center For American Progress Had Internal Sexual Harassment Problem)

The union also tweeted about how the #MeToo movement is fighting against sexual harassment for flight attendants.

AFA results also noted that Alaska, Spirit, and United Airlines are the most combative against sexual harassment allegations.
