North Korea released three American prisoners Wednesday, and they are extremely grateful for their freedom.

“We would like to express our deep appreciation to the United States government, President [Donald] Trump, Secretary Pompeo, and the people of the United States for bringing us home,” a statement from the three Americans read. “We thank God, and all our families and friends who prayed for us and for our return.”

“God bless America, the greatest nation in the world,” the statement concluded.

Kim Dong-Chul, Kim Hak-Song and Kim Sang-Duk (Tony Kim) were released into Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s custody Wednesday during a visit to North Korea — his second trip to the rogue nation in less than a month. The purpose of the secretary’s trip was to lay the groundwork for Trump’s upcoming summit with Kim Jong Un.

During Pompeo’s meeting with Kim, the young dictator “accepted an official suggestion of the U.S. president for the release of Americans, who have been detained in the DPRK for their anti-DPRK hostilities, and gave an order of the chairman of the DPRK State Affairs Commission on granting amnesty to them for their repatriation,” according to North Korean state media.

The White House described the release of the prisoners as a “gesture of goodwill.”
