First Italian Starbucks Franchise Set To Open In Milan

Starbucks is set to open up its first Italian franchise in Milan, Italy, this September, according to The Guardian Monday.
The Seattle-based company is gearing up to open up the coffee shop in an old postal office building overlooking the beautiful Piazza Cordusio, The Guardian reported. The new Starbucks will be only minutes away from city’s iconic Duomo di Milano. Starbucks’ Italian home is in a 25,500 square foot shopping arena known as the Palazzo Delle Poste, according to the franchise’s official website.
The idea for opening up a Starbucks in the popular Italian city came from the company’s CEO Howard Schultz who got inspired by all of the delicious coffee.
“I came to Milan as a young man in 1983 … my imagination was captured by Italian coffee. We are not coming here to teach Italians how to make coffee, we are coming here with humility and respect, to show what we have learned,” Schultz, 64, said in Milan Monday.
“As mayor and as a citizen of Milan I am pleased that an international company, known for its standing and reliability such as Starbucks, has decided to invest in our city, choosing the famous Post Office building as the site of its first store in Italy,” said Giuseppe Sala, Milan’s mayor.
Following Starbucks’ inaugural arrival in Milan, the company will then open up smaller shops around the city, according to Eater.
