Former FBI Director James Comey is set to speak Monday at Amazon headquarters in Seattle, an event likely to draw the ire of President Donald Trump.
While tech giants like Amazon often invite notable public figures to lecture and converse with employees, the choice of Comey, who is currently embarking on a book tour, may be telling. The function, which is expected to start at 10 a.m. Pacific time, was first reported by The Intercept, and was confirmed to The Daily Caller News Foundation.
“We regularly host a wide range of musicians, actors, public officials and authors on campus as part of our Fishbowl program,” an Amazon spokeswoman told TheDCNF.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the world, has become a target of Trump, specifically for the purportedly unfair business deals the company conducts with the United States Postal Service and his ownership of The Washington Post.
Comey has also been the recipient of criticism from Trump for months. The criticism has picked up since Comey released his autobiography “A Higher Loyalty” on April 17.
In it, Comey details his account of Trump’s handling of the presidency during the first year at the helm.
The combination of Bezos and Comey may intensify Trump’s digital temper.
Amazon did not respond to TheDCNF’s request for comment.
