Former FBI Director James Comey reveals in a new book why President Donald Trump wanted him to investigate the most salacious claim made in the infamous Steele dossier.

Trump asked Comey during a dinner meeting in January 2017 to investigate the dossier in order to debunk the allegation he engaged in a “golden showers” scene with Russian prostitutes, the former FBI director wrote in “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership”

Trump did not want his wife, Melania, believing the allegation was true, the president said.

“He brought up what he called the ‘golden showers thing’ … adding that it bothered him if there was ‘even a one percent chance’ his wife, Melania, thought it was true,” Comey wrote, according to the New York Post, which obtained a copy of the book.

“He just rolled on, unprompted, explaining why it couldn’t possibly be true, ending by saying he was thinking of asking me to investigate the allegation to prove it was a lie. I said it was up to him.”

The Russian government is blackmailing Trump with a video of that incident, which allegedly occurred in Moscow in November 2013, according to the the dossier former British spy Christopher Steele wrote and Democrats funded. claims.

Comey warned Trump investigating the dossier for that specific reason might lead the public to believe Trump was being investigated personally, the former FBI director, who Trump fired on May 9, 2017, wrote.

Comey testified on June 7, 2017, he told Trump on at least two occasions he was not under investigation in the Russia probe. Comey told Trump on Jan. 6, 2017, he was not under investigation as part of the probe, which was looking into whether Trump associates colluded with the Russian government, he said. Trump was not a target of the investigation, Comey also told Trump in a March 30, 2017, phone conversation.

Comey wondered why Melania Trump would have any reason to believe there was even a one percent chance the salacious incident occurred, he also wrote, according to The Post.

“In what kind of marriage, to what kind of man, does a spouse conclude there is only a 99 percent chance her husband didn’t do that?” Comey writes.

The book will be released on April 17.
