Target fired an employee who stuck white supremacist cards in diapers set to be shipped across the country, the popular chain said Tuesday.

The employee put cards with the words “it’s okay to be white” in the packages, BuzzFeed News reported Tuesday. Customers from Florida; North Carolina; Washington, D.C., among other locations found the cards in their diaper box orders. The back of the laminated cards listed white supremacist websites including dailystormer.com, BloodAndSoil.org, and FashTheNation.org.

“After being made aware of the situation, we immediately launched a thorough investigation to address the concerns and put a stop to it,” said Joshua Thomas, a spokesman for Target. “We have identified the source, and given this is a violation of our policies and our commitment to inclusivity, terminated the team member.”

The “it’s okay to be white” slogan was first used by white nationalist band Aggressive Force as a title for one of their songs. White supremacist groups then adopted the slogan in 2005. Fliers with the slogan have also been spotted on college campuses since 2017, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

Target did not comment on how they managed to track down the former employee to fire him, according to BuzzFeed.
