Former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Brennan said the Russian government may have compromising information on President Donald Trump and would be willing to blackmail him, Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Trump accused Brennan of leaking the infamous Russian dossier back in January and did not take kindly to the president’s insinuation.

“I think he’s afraid of the Russian president,” Brennan told “Morning Joe.” “They may have something on him personally that they could always roll out and make his life more difficult.”

Brennan said improving relations with Russia is a meritorious aim but believes it’s all a front to stifle potential blackmail scandals.

“Clearly I think it’s important for us to be able to improve relations with Russia, but the fact that he has had this fawning attitude toward Mr. Putin, has not said anything negative about him, I think it continues to say to me that he does have something to fear and something very serious to fear,” he continued.

“The [Russians] would not, they would opt for things to do if they believe that it was in their interest and the Russians, I think, have had long experience with Mr. trump and may have things that they could expose and reveal,” Brennan added.
