Iowa Republican state Senate Majority Leader Bill Dix resigned his post Monday after video surfaced of him kissing a woman who was not his wife in a bar.

Political blog Iowa Starting Line first reported the video Monday morning, recorded March 1, showing Dix, who is married, kissing a woman identified only as a lobbyist for local municipality groups.

Hours after the video went live, Dix met with fellow Republican senators and emerged minutes later to issue a brief statement: “I resign my position as Iowa State Senator and Majority Leader effective at 2 p.m. today, March 12, 2018.”

The video shows Dix talking closely to a woman on the bar stool next to him, and at one point she leans in and the two kiss.

“I believe he made the right decision for himself and for his district, but most importantly, I believe he made the decision in the best interest of his family,” Iowa state Senate President Jack Whitver said in a statement. “Senate Republicans will continue to move the policies Iowans elected us to pursue.”

Dix has three children, according to the Des Moines Register, and had served in the state legislature for 18 years. The lobbyist has not been identified, but reportedly worked with the legislature, particularly Dix who was in charge of moving measures to the floor as majority leader.
