Former Obama White House Ethics Czar Norm Eisen said Tuesday morning that he predicts prisons will be filled with President Donald Trump’s associates by the time Trump finishes his tenure as president.
“This is insane. In the Obama White House, I even made people quit uncompensated non-profit outside positions because of conflicts risks. This is FOR profit work that could conflict with official duties. Prediction: by end of Trump admin, prisons will be full of his associates,” Eisen tweeted Tuesday.

Former President Barack Obama’s ethics chief is referencing the Trump administration’s move to allow Environmental Protection Agency Chief Scott Pruitt’s aide to work for private clients on the side while serving at agency. The aide serves as the EPA’s deputy associate administrator for public affairs, which puts him in charge, among other things, of signing off on hundreds of millions of federal grants.
Federal regulations bar the aide from receiving in excess of $27,765 from his outside role.
Working at a federal agency while also working in the private sector isn’t completely uncommon.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s aide Huma Abedin spent months at the State Department working part-time as a consultant at the agency while also working with outside clients.
