Stuart Varney Marvels At Historically Low Unemployment Numbers: ‘Never Seen Anything Like It’

Host of Fox Business’ “Varney & Company,” Stuart Varney, said claims for unemployment benefits were at a historic low for the month of February and believes it is a sign of a booming economy.

“This 49-year low in unemployment benefits — That’s a nasty bit of technical jargon. Let’s cut through that,” Varney said on “Fox & Friends” Friday. “Right now in America there is freeze on layoffs and firings. And I’ve never seen it before.”

“If you’ve got employees, you are an employer, you don’t lay people off today. You don’t fire people, you keep them. No matter what,” Varney continued. “Only 210,000 new claims for new unemployment benefits last month. That is an historic low. I have lived in America, covered this for 40 odd years. I have never seen anything like that.”

Varney said these low unemployment numbers, coupled with a recent surge in consumer confidence have made the economy thrive in ways we have not seen in decades.

“At the same time you’ve got this burst of consumer confidence, to record levels, best in 20 years. That’s an astonishing thing,” he concluded. “So here you’ve got these tariffs coming down the pike at us. And that serves as distraction from the underlying state of the economy, which is robust and vigorous and heading toward prosperity.”
