Hang Him In The Street: South Korean Lawmakers Protest North Korea’s Newest Olympic Delegate

The liberal South Korean government is opening its arms to a North Korean general suspected of murdering dozens of its people, but opposition lawmakers are calling for his execution.
Gen. Kim Yong Chol, a man with a rap sheet a mile long, will attend the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in South Korea this Sunday. The general is believed to have orchestrated two deadly attacks on the South — the sinking of the ROKS Cheonan and the shelling of Yeonpyeong Island — that ended the lives of 50 people.
“Kim Yong Chol is a diabolical war criminal who attacked the South,” the conservative parliamentary floor leader Kim Sung-tae said, adding, “He deserves death by hanging in the street.”
“Even if the heavens split in two, we cannot allow such a heinous criminal – who must be sliced to death – to be invited to the Olympics closing ceremony,” he added.
Around 70 members of the conservative Liberty in Korea party protested outside the Blue House, the South Korean presidential office, Friday.
The South Korean Ministry of Unification said it is willing to let Kim come to South Korea if there chance “for improving inter-Korean ties and a peace settlement might be improved.” The general is blacklisted by the U.S. and South Korea for his suspected involvement in criminal activities.
In addition to the deadly attacks on South Korea, Kim is said to have sent spies across the border into the South to assassinate a high-ranking defector critical of the brutal North Korean regime in Pyongyang.
Kim’s visit follows a visit by North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un’s younger sister Kim Yo Jong.
