Former President Barack Obama praised the Parkland students who have been strongly advocating for gun control Thursday, telling them “we’ve got your backs.”
“Young people have helped lead all our great movements. How inspiring to see it again in so many smart, fearless students standing up for their right to be safe; marching and organizing to remake the world as it should be,” Obama said in a tweet. “We’ve been waiting for you. And we’ve got your backs.”

In light of the mass shooting at Marjory Douglas Stoneman High School, the survivors of the shooting have been protesting and marching to call for Congress and the president to enact safety measures to keep students safe at school.
Many of the students are calling for a ban on assault-style rifles and for politicians to no longer take money from the National Rifle Association.
