Florida Republicans have been increasingly quiet on gun rights after the Parkland shooting in a state that has long been a proponent of strong gun rights.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott, who has had the support of the National Rifle Association in the past, has now declared that “everything is on the table” when it comes to solving the issue of gun violence in schools, reports Politico.
Scott, who also signed many legislative orders protecting gun rights, said he plans to unveil legislation Friday that he believes will help solve the problem of mass shootings in school .
Agriculture Commissioner and former Rep. Adam Putnam also put on pause a bill he proposed last month that would allow people with incomplete background checks to still buy a gun. He also did not say whether he still considers himself a “proud NRA sell out” when questioned by Politico.
Other GOP leaders, like Sen. Marco Rubio and State House Speaker Richard Corcoran, have also been relatively quiet. Rubio has called for a task force to study gun violence and suggested a ban on bump stocks; he has also suggested that lawmakers should consider a law that would allow family or police officers to request the court give them permission to take away guns from a potentially dangerous family member.

“If someone has decided ‘I’m going to commit this crime,’ they will find a way to get the gun to do it,” Rubio said on the Senate floor after the shooting. “That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a law that makes it harder. ”
The leaders did not return The Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment in time for publication.
In light of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that left 17 dead, students and parents from the school have called for gun control to protect students from experiencing another mass shooting. A group of parents and students from the high school plan to meet with various Florida state legislators to get their message across Wednesday.
