Authorities are responding to reports of shots fired at a community college in Washington state.
Highline College is on lockdown, the school revealed on Facebook. “Highline College is currently in lockdown due to an active threat on campus,” read a message on the college’s main website. “Students and staff, please remain away from campus until further notice. We will update here as the situation changes.”
That message has since been updated to read: “Highline College is responding to an active threat on campus. The buildings and occupants are in lockdown and cooperating with responding law enforcement. This is an unfolding situation and we will update you when we have further details.”
“Reunification location for family members is the Lowes parking lot at 240th and Pacific Highway.”
Police, as well as fire and rescue, are on the scene. “They’re looking for and trying to confirm that shots were fired,” Washington State Patrol trooper Rick Johnson, told CNN. “They are essentially setting up a perimeter. There is no confirmation that we know of.”
Authorities have yet to find victims or evidence of a shooting, according to local news, citing fire and rescue officials. Two people are reportedly being treated for anxiety.
Highline College is a community college located in Des Moines, Wash. The college has sent out multiple messages on Facebook warning people that the school continues to be on lockdown.
This incident comes on the heels of a deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., where a lone gunman ended the lives of 17 teachers and students Wednesday.
