REPORT: Trump Is Considering Firing Kelly Over Porter Debacle

President Donald Trump is allegedly considering dismissing Chief of Staff John Kelly over his handling of the domestic abuse allegations against former Staff Secretary Rob Porter, sources close to the president told ABC News.

Trump reportedly approached his friend and former executive chairman of his inaugural committee, Tom Barrack, about taking over for Kelly; but Barrack said he wouldn’t accept should he be offered the job.

A White House official denied the report to CNBC.

Kelly reportedly told Trump he would be willing to resign if Trump asked him to. The Marine general was heavily criticized for defending Porter after the Daily Mail reported allegations that he beat his two ex-wives.

Kelly called Porter “a man of true integrity and honor” in a statement provided in response to the allegations Tuesday night.

Porter resigned Wednesday and that evening Kelly issued a second statement, in which he said he was “shocked by the new allegations,” adding “there is no place for domestic violence in our society.”

Kelly was spotted working in the West Wing Friday and sources told ABC he is not in imminent danger of being fired.

Trump is also considering economic adviser Gary Cohn, Office of Management and Budget director Mick Mulvaney and Rep. Mark Meadows, sources told ABC.
