Macron Wants To Limit Price Wars Following Nutella Riots

French President Emmanuel Macron announced Wednesday that he wants to limit price wars at supermarkets following an outbreak of riots over Nutella last week.
Macron proposed a measure to create a more cohesive policy that better reimburses farmers and limits consumers’ spending powers, following chaos over cheap sales at the Intermarché supermarket Jan. 26., reported Bloomberg. Macron’s proposed law would enact stricter regulations on stores so prices are based on production costs for farmers.
Intermarché previously offered a 70 percent discount on its Nutella, dropping prices from $5.60 to $1.74, reported BBC. The sharp decrease in cost led to riots in the stores.
“I met with the head of Intermarché’ yesterday, and I said this couldn’t happen again,” Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on RTL Radio.

Macron’s proposed law would also ensure more organic food at schools. The bill is set to go to parliament in February or March.
