Chemical Explosion Triggers Evacuation At University Of Pittsburgh

A chemical explosion Wednesday afternoon triggered the evacuation of a University of Pittsburgh building.
The University of Pittsburgh said that a fume hood, which protects students from exposure to toxic materials, contained the explosion, reported WTAE. The explosion at the Life Sciences Annex occurred at approximately 2:45pm EST.
“One student was evaluated by paramedics due to eye irritation,” said the university. “The building was reopened around 3:30, excluding the First Floor of Life Sciences Annex, which is undergoing cleanup.”
The explosion occurred around the same time as a former laboratory employee at the University of Pittsburgh reportedly sued the school, claiming she was fired after informing the school of safety infractions like an infected monkey’s escape.
