‘It’s Hard To Be A Man These Days’ Actor Says During Awards Ceremony

Actor William H. Macy said “it’s hard to be a man these days,” to reporters at the Screen Actors Guild Awards Sunday.

The comments from Macy, 67, the star of “Shameless” and husband of “Desperate Housewives” actress Felicity Huffman, come as Hollywood takes on the anti-sexual harassment movements Time’s Up and #MeToo.

“I think a lot of us feel like we’re under attack and feel like we need to apologize,” Macy said backstage. “Perhaps we do. Perhaps we are. But we’ll keep talking.”

The actor told reporters that he recently hosted a meeting with Huffman at their house to raise awareness for the Time’s Up movement, reported Metro.

Macy won the best actor in a comedy series award Sunday for his role in “Shameless.”

“I have two daughters, and I feel girls are ascendant, and I’m thrilled for them,” Macy said, reported New York Daily News Sunday. “It’s a good time to be a girl. And I’m proud of this business because such things as safety in the workplace — I think that’s done. We’re not going back. It’s changed. It changed in an instant and it’s not going back.”

He previously supported his “Shameless” co-star Emmy Rossum’s quest to receive the same pay as Macy, reported People Magazine in November.
