A Team USA figure skater said Thursday that he would not go to the White House because he wouldn’t be “welcome there” since he is gay.
Adam Rippon, 28, the first openly gay figure skater to compete in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, claims that would not feel welcome at the White House due to Trump’s LGBTQ policies, he told the BBC.
“I don’t think somebody like me would be welcome there,” said Rippon. “I know what it’s like to go into a room and feel like you’re not wanted.” Rippon also claimed that he was also bullied when he was younger due to his sexuality.
“I think it’s important that we stand up for what we believe in and we speak out against things that we think are wrong and unjust,” added Rippon.
Rippon claimed that he wanted to be a role model for other people struggling with their sexuality, reported The Hill. He previously tweeted that “I hope it helps a young girl or boy who doesn’t feel like they belong.”
While you may not be SHOCKED that I am gay (surprise), I hope it helps a young girl or boy who doesn’t feel like they belong (like I once did) and lets them know it’s awesome to be yourself. You can do ANYTHING if you work hard.
