CNN reporter Dana Bash went against the normal narrative of her home network Tuesday, when she praised President Donald Trump for his bi-partisan immigration meeting to address DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and border security.
“I’m sure I’m going to get hit for this and I don’t really care — I think that the bottom line is this is, a year ago, this is the presidency that many people thought Donald Trump was capable of,” Bash said.
“I’m really not convinced that it would have been any different had the cameras not been in there,” she added.
Trump invited the media along to witness the discussion between Democratic and Republican leaders and said he would sign whatever agreement Congress sends to his desk.
Bash believed the meeting wasn’t just a photo-op and was meant to be a constructive dialogue to advance comprehensive immigration reform.
“We’ve all covered a lot of photo-ops for the sake of bringing the cameras in to send an image around the world. That’s not what this was, and we are as skeptical as they come,” Bash continued.
She called Trump “in command” and thinks the summit symbolized what many Trump voters were hoping for when they cast their ballots for him in 2016.
“Just the notion of him being in command, of him wanting the cameras in there and wanting the cameras to see him sitting at a table with Democrats and Republicans playing the role of a deal makers … this is what people who had high hopes for the Trump Presidency thought it would be. Meeting after meeting like this,” Bash concluded.
