Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon reassured a concerned Breitbart radio caller Thursday morning about the state of his relationship with President Donald Trump — one day after the pair traded blows in their most public spat since they began working together.
“Nothing will ever come between us and President Trump and his agenda,” Bannon said on Breitbart News Tonight radio show on SiriusXM. “We’re tight on this agenda as we’ve ever been.”
Trump issued a statement Wednesday attacking Bannon for criticisms of the Trump campaign and administration included in excerpted portions of Michael Wolff’s upcoming book: alleging Bannon “lost his mind” after being fired and rejecting his supposed continued influence in the White House.
In the excerpt of Wolff’s book published in New York Magazine, Bannon called the Trump Tower meeting between several high-ranking campaign officials and a Kremlin connected attorney “treasonous” and “unpatriotic.” In addition to his attack on Trump’s inner circle, a number of his statements included in the excerpt paint Trump — seemingly the only person Bannon has been unwilling to attack thus far — as bumbling, ignorant and incompetent. Trump’s attorney sent a cease and desist letter to Bannon Wednesday night, accusing the Breitbart News executive of breaching a non disclosure agreement in the course of his conversations with Wolff.
“This law firm represents President Donald J. Trump and Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. On behalf of our clients, legal notice was issued today to Stephen K. Bannon, that his actions of communicating with author Michael Wolff regarding an upcoming book give rise to numerous legal claims including defamation by libel and slander, and breach of his written confidentiality and non-disparagement agreement with our clients. Legal action is imminent,” the letter reads.
