A British woman who miscarried eight times was ecstatic after being blessed with the birth of a healthy baby boy on New Year’s Day.
It seemed a New Year’s miracle when Brit Emma Parker delivered a healthy baby boy name Charlie at the Lincoln County Hospital in Lincolnshire, U.K. She had tried conceiving countless times but met failure over and over again, losing eight unborn babies over the course of six years, according to LiveAction.
Charlie weighed five pounds, 13 ounces, LiveAction reported.
Parker and her husband, Craig, had even attempted in vitro fertilization (IVF) twice following her initial miscarriages. Those attempts, however, were all unsuccessful.
IVF Risks include birth defects or miscarriage, both of which increase as the mother’s age rises. Perhaps defying the odds even further given Parker’s history, Charlie was conceived naturally and deemed a “miracle baby.”
Given her countless miscarriages, she had worried her baby wouldn’t make it to the end of the pregnancy, but gained hope when she reached the 20 week mark without complications. Charlie — and other babies like him born after a miscarriage — are referred to as “rainbow babies.”
“We are looking forward to spoiling him and there’s lots of people waiting to meet him,” Charlie’s father told LincolnshireLive. “It’s a totally different love you have when a baby is born.”
