The daughter of a police brutality victim died Saturday morning after suffering from a heart attack and sustaining some brain damage, according to a report.
Sources told The New York Daily News of Erica Garner’s, the daughter of Eric Garner, death early Saturday morning, the outlet reported.
Garner was rushed to the hospital last week after having a heart attack stemming from an asthma attack. This was Garner’s second heart attack as she, a mother of two, had one after her first pregnancy. Her family and friends were hopeful that she would pull through, as doctors had previously registered some brain activity.
“Cat scan shows Erica suffered major brain damage from a lack of oxygen while in cardiac arrest. Please continue to pray hard for Erica and pray for her family and kids just as much,” a friend tweeted Wednesday from Garner’s Twitter account.
Other supporters like Rev. Al Sharpton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders either visited the hospital or sent Garner their well wishes.
“My thoughts are with Erica Garner, her family and friends in hoping that she has a full recovery and rejoins the struggle for justice as soon as possible,” Sanders said.
Garner’s father died while in police custody in 2014; his words “I can’t breathe” became a rallying crying during various Black Lives Matter protests against his death.
