American Civil Liberties Union staff members tweeted out various poems staffers wrote for donations they received by individuals over Twitter.
The ACLU started the Twitter hashtag #ACLUpoems for an end-of-the-year fundraising push, with many of the verses discussing the goals and work of the civil-rights organization. Individuals took a screenshot of their donation to share with the ACLU.
One poem shared spands a number of stanzas and warns against a “Constitutional attack” and vows to protect the “inalienable rights” of Dreamers and “refugee[s] from far and wide.”
Our staffers have had fun writing poems for everyone who screenshot their ACLU donations. Here is one poem that deserves its own thread.#ACLUpoems

A majority of the poems are rather elementary, simply thanking donors in short rhyme schemes. After one individual posted a screenshot of a “Thank You” letter, the ACLU’s account responded with “Thanks for all that you do//We are grateful for supporters like you.”
Thanks for all that you do
We are grateful for supporters like you#ACLUpoems— ACLU (@ACLU) December 28, 2017
Another poem reads: “Thank you for your generous gift//This will give civil liberties a lift.”

Another tweet, incorporating the donor’s twitter handle, reads: “Thank you, thank you @SnoringVic//Your donation will do the trick.”
Thank you, thank you @SnoringVic

One poem, inspired by “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud” by famed English Romantic poet William Wordsworth, credits the organization for “making civil rights come true.”
After William Wordsworth:
I wandered lonely as a cloud
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of donors to the ACLU!
Thanks for making civil rights come true.#ACLUpoems— ACLU (@ACLU) December 28, 2017
The advocacy group has repeatedly attacked President Donald Trump since he entered office and has challenged a number of his executive orders and policy decisions in court.
