GOP Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona conceded his support for the Senate tax reform bill Friday, hours before the upper chamber is scheduled to vote on the legislation.

“For nearly two decades I have advocated for a lower corporate tax rate that will enable U.S. businesses to compete globally and reforms that will deliver a fairer, simpler tax code,” Flake said in a statement.

Flake held out his support for the bill in order to coerce a commitment from GOP leadership that they would work with him to develop a legislative extension to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which President Donald Trump phased out in September.

“The second was to obtain a firm commitment from the Senate Leadership and the administration to work with me on a growth-oriented legislative solution to enact fair and permanent protections for DACA recipients,” the statement reads.

Flake had also been withholding his support for the bill due to concerns about its budgetary impact. GOP Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee joined Flake in his opposition to the bill, arguing it would add to the already ballooning deficit.
