Months of subway struggles in Brooklyn, N.Y. can be blamed on “political struggle,” a subway safety union director said Sunday after a piece of tile fell on the subway tracks and caused a car’s derailment.
Paul Navarro, a director of subway safety for the Workers Transportation Union, claims that subway deterioration is based on the ongoing political conflict between Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the New York Post reported. Navarro made this assertion after a large piece of wall tile fell onto the tracts of the 86th Street subway station in Bay Ridge around 5:30 a.m., leaving 30 people stuck inside the train, according to authorities.
“That’s what happens when you play politics like that,” Navarro said, adding, “The only people that suffer are the public. They don’t take the subway.”
While there were no reported injuries, the station was closed for 12 hours and reopened at 4:30 p.m.
