Former Republican Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee joked Wednesday that he cooked the turkey pardoned by President Donald Trump.

Huckabee tweeted a picture of Trump and the turkey next to a photo of a cooked turkey in an oven. Huckabee jokingly said his daughter, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, asked him to take care of the turkey, but he said he misunderstood the request.

“Uh oh! U see the turkey @realDonaldTrump pardoned at @WhiteHouse ? Well @PressSec asked me to ‘take care of it’ and I may have misunderstood. Yikes!” Huckabee tweeted.

Huckabee also joked that after The White House found out he had “cooked” the pardoned turkey, he faced immediate consequences.

“God as my witness I didn’t know that bird was supposed to be spared! I don’t think @PressSec is speaking to me and @realDonaldTrump has banned me from @WhiteHouse,” Huckabee tweeted.

Trump pardoned the turkey at the White House Tuesday with First Lady Melania Trump. The pardoning of the two giant birds is a tradition dating back more than 60 years. The birds are pardoned and then spend the rest of their lives on a turkey farm.

The birds pardoned Tuesday were named Drumstick and Wishbone.
