Russian hackers successfully breached Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s email account after attempting to do so for just over a week, the Associated Press reports.

The cybersecurity company SecureWorks analyzed over 19,000 lines of raw data and determined Russian hackers were able to evade substantial security measures using a common phishing technique to gain access to Podesta’s emails.

The phishing messages, first sent on March 10, 2016, appeared as if they were sent by Google, which hosted the Clinton campaign’s email infrastructure. Nine days after launching the attack, Podesta clicked on one of the links and the hackers gained access to some 50,000 campaign emails.
