Bill Could Force Schools To Report Anytime A Kid Bullies Others

A bill that is set to be introduced to the New York city council Tuesday would compel schools to report bullying statistics.

Democrat councilman Mark Treyger submitted the bill to be reviewed by the city’s education committee Monday and will introduce it to the council Tuesday, reported The New York Post.

“Parents have to be notified when there’s a complaint,” said Treyger. “And we need to know when parents are being notified after the complaint has been made.”

“There have been a lot of tragic and unfortunate bullying incidents in our schools,” the Democratic councilman added. “We need a very serious and open examination into the extent of this problem in our school system.”

Treyger is introducing the bill a month after an 18-year-old student stabbed and killed a 15-year-old whom he alleged had previously taunted and punched him. The bill will become law if approved by the council and Mayor Bill de Blasio.

The Daily Caller News Foundation reached out to Treyger and the Department of Education for comment, but received none in time for press.
