Robert Reich: America ‘Should Not Have This Much Killing Capacity’

America “should not have this much killing capacity,” professor and former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich said Monday in reference to the Las Vegas massacre.
The University of California, Berkeley public policy professor made the remark, along with a few other comments, hours after a massacre claimed the lives of at least 58 individuals and sent at least 515 people to the hospital.
“How many more families must lose loved ones before we act to stop gun violence?” asked the professor. “From Columbine to Orlando, we have mourned too many of these tragedies. We must act to protect our fellow citizens.”

Reich served as secretary of labor for former President Bill Clinton from 1993-1997. The former labor secretary made the remarks just a minute after he expressed remorse for the tragedy in an apolitical tweet.
“No civilized nation allows what we permit to happen. No one should have this much killing capacity,” said Reich. “The Second Amendment was never intended to permit mass slaughter.”
