Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Americans “may fight,” but they always find a way to “stick together” in a time of crisis, while remarking on the anniversary of 9/11 Monday.
“When we get attacked we all stick together,” Giuliani told “Fox and Friends.” “We may fight with each other, other times but we all stick together. And I think you see that in Texas. You see that in Florida.”
Giuliani said the 9/11 attacks are still sending ripple effects throughout the world and called the terrorist threat a “different kind of enemy.”
“It’s not like Pearl Harbor of some of the other terrible things in our history … it’s something that’s still going on. This isn’t yet part of our history,” he said. “This enemy is a different kind of enemy. They are very determined, very patient. They see this as an eternal mission that they have.”
Giuliani said America’s vigilance since 9/11 has prevented similar attacks and given leaders a blueprint on how to fight natural disasters like Harvey and Irma.

“I thank God that we haven’t had an attack on our homeland since then, which says something about our ability to prepare … and I happen to know there are many attacks we have avoided,” he said. “I also think that September 11th contributed in a way an improvement in our emergency services in general. I mean the same training and the same work that you have to do to get ready for a terrorist attack of that magnitude, is the kind of training you need to do for a natural disaster.”
The threat Americans faced on 9/11 is still alive and remains a “danger to us,” calling the fight an “ongoing issue,” he said.
“The motivations that caused that attack are still a danger to us. Now we may not have been attacked on the scale of September 11th but we have been attacked since September 11th. And there have been numerous attacks in Europe and numerous attack in Asia. So it’s an ongoing issue for us. An ongoing problem of massive proportions.”
