Miami Airport Just Fact-Checked Trump’s Social Media Director

President Donald Trump’s social media director tweeted, then deleted, a video he thought showed massive flooding of Miami International Airport during Hurricane Irma.

“Sharing #HurricaneIrma on social media with President @realDonaldTrump & @VP Pence hourly,” Dan Scavino, Jr., Trump’s director of social media, said in a tweet Sunday afternoon. “Here is Miami International Airport. STAY SAFE!!”

Several minutes later, the twitter account for Miami International Airport replied that the video was not taken there.

Scavino deleted the tweet after Miami International Airport responded, but not before journalists on Twitter noticed the fact-check, pointing out that Scavino had bragged about sharing the video with Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

Several Twitter users commented that the original video actually shows Mexico City Airport, which is currently experiencing flooding and storms from Hurricane Katia.

The Miami Airport closed Sunday due to high winds, and the runway did appear to have standing water from heavy rains in a video the airport posted.

Trump received update briefings on Hurricane Irma’s path through Florida on Sunday while he and many of his cabinet members are in Camp David, Md.
