Journalists incorrectly reported that President Donald Trump’s Wednesday morning tweet, reassuring Dreamers they would not be deported in the next six months, was the result of a phone call from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

The journalists, all of whom cited an anonymous Democratic aide, later reversed course, reporting that Trump actually called Pelosi Thursday morning, before making clear that the administration would not target Dreamers for deportation in the next six months.

The White House confirmed that President Trump spoke with Senators McConnell and Schumer as well as Speaker Ryan and Minority Leader Pelosi Thursday morning.

“The President spoke to Senators McConnell and Schumer as well as Speaker Ryan and Minority Leader Pelosi this morning. The President is committed to working across the aisle and doing what is needed to best serve the American people. The President is also having dinner with Speaker Ryan later tonight,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters.

Sanders would not confirm reports that Pelosi asked Trump to tweet about not deporting DACA recipients.

Trump issued a public reassurance to those affected by his decision to roll back the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program over the next six months, ending amnesty for some 800,000 illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.

Trump expressed hope that Congress would codify the protection offered to Dreamers before the six month period expired. In a Tweet sent hours after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the administration’s plan to roll back the program.
