German Ambassador Claims Trump And Merkel Have ‘Good Relationship’

The German ambassador to the United States, Peter Wittig, claimed the relationship between Germany and the U.S. is “good and productive” Wednesday, despite speculation the countries have a rocky bond. 

When co-anchor Alisyn Camerota asked Wittig if it was “fair to characterize their relationship as a feud at the moment,” he responded immediately saying, “Oh no, no.“ 

“They met in Washington very extensively, they met now in Europe, they are on the phone frequently,” Witting told Camerota.

Trump sent out a tweet directed towards Germany Tuesday morning, continuing to fuel concern of the relationship between the U.S. and Germany.

Wittig continued to assure CNN the relationship is just fine saying, “That’s a good relationship and there are few leaders as committed to the transatlantic relationship as Merkel is to the friendship of the United States,” Wittig continued. “That has not changed with President Trump.”

The German ambassador also discussed the bombing in Kabul, Afghanistan Wednesday near the German embassy that left 83 people and hundreds more injured.
