Chicago’s Mayor Tells Trump To Stop Tweeting And Actually Help Them

Chicago’s mayor criticized President Donald Trump for always tweeting about the city’s violence Tuesday.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel called on Trump to stop tweeting about the violence and instead send the resources the city needs, according to a statement.

“We have repeatedly made specific requests of the administration for greater law enforcement integration and resources; a higher priority placed on federal gun prosecutions; and funds restored toward mentoring and after-school and summer jobs programs that have proven to be positive alternatives for our young people,” the statement read.

Emanuel went on to say he would have the list available should Trump decide to help, rather than just tweet about it.

“The better question, I’d suggest, is whether the President cares enough about violence in our city to do more than talk and tweet about it,” Emanuel said.

Trump tweets about Chicago and its violence often. As the violence continues to rage in the city, The president has threatened to send in the feds to put a stop to it.

He also touched on the increase in homicides in his Tuesday night address to Congress.

“In Chicago, more than 4,000 people were shot last year alone — and the murder rate so far this year has been even higher.This is not acceptable in our society,” Trump said.
The current homicide count for the city is 94, which is four less than last year’s numbers at the same time. The overall shootings for February were up from last year; 167 shootings occurred this year in February, compared to 162 last year.
Emanuel insisted that the city is aware of the dangers that Chicago citizens face.
“We are clear-eyed about the public safety challenges we’re facing: while many of our neighborhoods have not seen a single murder this year, gun violence is plaguing neighborhoods on our South and West sides,” Emanuel said.
