Steven Mnuchin, President-elect Donald Trump’s national finance chairman during the election, is expected to be named secretary of the treasury, The New York Times reported Wednesday.
Mnuchin has a long history in banking, having served as chairman of Dune Capital Management, a hedge fund he founded in 2002. He spent 17 years working at Goldman Sachs, in addition to working at Soros Fund Management and co-founding OneWest Bank Group.
In addition to working on Wall Street, he also has a history in Hollywood, financing major blockbusters like “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “X-Men.”
The job offer likely won’t come much as a surprise, as he’s previously hinted he would likely work in the administration.
“Nobody’s going to be, like, ‘Well, why did he do this?’ if I end up in the administration,” he told Bloomberg Businessweek earlier this year.
Mnuchin edged out billionaire Wilbur Ross, who served as an economic adviser to Trump and made his fortune working in distressed asset management.
Ross is expected to be named secretary of commerce, CNBC reports.
