Homes Near Sen. Pat Toomey’s Neighborhood Vandalized With Anti-GOP Slurs

Vandals wreaked havoc on Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey’s neighborhood over the weekend, spray-painting hateful messages on nearby homes directed at the Republican Party.

“Look Out Toomey And You Neo Nazi Republicans,” graffiti on one home read. “Nazi, Slavers, Rapists, Cross Worshippers = GOP,” “#Americans Against The Republican Party,” were some of the other choice words inscribed. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the attacks on each of the residences, one of which took place across from the senator’s residence.

Toomey, who is in a contentious race against Democrat Katie McGinty to hold onto his seat in the upper chamber, spoke out against the destruction, saying he’s distressed his neighbors were subjected to the acts.

“That was just appalling. There’s just absolutely no place for that,” Toomey said at a campaign stop Tuesday, Philly.com reports. “You know, these were my neighbors and good friends and wonderful people and it’s just a shame that some politically motivated people would do something like that, it’s really, really despicable.”

Of the two houses attacked, just one had campaign signs on the lawn, showing support for Toomey and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, Lehigh Valley Live reports. Despite the damage,  the residents said they will continue to display their support.

“The first thing I said to my kids after it happened is we’re not taking the signs down, in fact I feel like putting more signs up because this is not going to intimidate us,” Jennifer Allen, who resides in one of the vandalized homes, told CBS.

McGinty also slammed the actions, calling for legal action to be taken against the criminals.

“This act of vandalism is unacceptable,” she said in a statement. “I hope law enforcement can quickly investigate the matter and hold the people responsible for it accountable.”
