Hillary Clinton’s campaign is enduring a fair bit of embarrassment on Twitter after it attempted to embrace the hot new trend of using emojis for everything.
It all started Wednesday afternoon with a Clinton campaign tweet asking Twitter users to describe their feelings about student loans in a series of three emojis:
How does your student loan debt make you feel? Tell us in 3 emojis or less.
— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) August 12, 2015
Things did not go according to plan. While some users embraced the intent of the tweet most did not, and it was instead hijacked for every conceivable purpose.
Hillary: Ok so tell me about millenials Advisor: they are being crushed by student debt; they use emojis Hil: Gotcha https://t.co/1HQj7IB4YX — carriet the spy (@CarriePotter_) August 12, 2015

Not helping things was the fact that Clinton’s original tweet bungled its grammar. Rather than “3 emojis or less,” it should have been “3 emojis or fewer,” because the emojis were countable.
@HillaryClinton fewer, not less. 🙁 🙁 🙁 <– these emoticons brought to you by the tears of good grammar. — elizabeth tobey (@dahanese) August 12, 2015
Clinton’s Twitter account finally responded to the blow-up in just about the only way it could:
