Saddam Hussein’s Nephew Reportedly Killed While Fighting With ISIS

The Islamic State claims Saddam Hussein’s nephew was killed while fighting near Beiji, where the terror group is trying to wrest control of Iraq’s largest oil refinery.

Ibrahim al-Sabawi was the oldest son of Saddam’s half-brother Hasan al-Sabawi, <a href=”http://rudaw.net/english/middleeast/iraq/20052015″ target=”_blank”>according to Rudaw</a>, a Kurdish news outlet. Ibrahim <a href=”http://www.alwasatnews.com/4383/news/read/918437/1.html” target=”_blank”>was accused</a> of participating in the killing of nearly 1,600 Iraqi service members at Camp Speicher last June, a former U.S. base located near Tikrit.

The city was liberated from the Islamic State by Iraqi forces and Shiite militias, aided by U.S.-led airstrikes, earlier this year. Officials <a href=”http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/04/07/us-mideast-crisis-iraq-speicher-idUSKBN0MY0WR20150407″ target=”_blank”>began exhuming</a> bodies from approximately 12 mass graves, uncovering the bodies of Shiite soldiers killed by the Islamic State.

Arabic-language outlet Erem News <a href=”http://www.eremnews.com/politics/arab-politics/281922″ target=”_blank”>reported</a> Iraq’s interior ministry confirmed the allegation Ibrahim was killed near Beiji.
