California must pay $399,000 to a crisis pregnancy center after a Monday ruling ordering the sum be paid to cover for costs incurred in a legal battle over the dissemination of abortion material.

The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California Western Division on Monday ordered the state to pay a near 400k lump sum to Mountain Right To Life Family Resource Center following a ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court preventing the state from enforcing a law mandating that crisis pregnancy centers advertise abortive services.

Mountain Right To Life is located in San Bernardino.

The Supreme Court decided in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) v. Becerra that the state cannot force crisis pregnancy centers to promote abortion. California’s Reproductive FACT Act previously required pro-life crisis pregnancy centers to disseminate information about abortion on their front door, in waiting rooms, and online.

California must now pay the resource center $399,000 to pay for attorney fees following the Liberty Counsel’s representation of the center in Mountain Right to Life, Inc. v. Becerra.

Liberty Counsel is an international nonprofit, litigation, education, and policy organization dedicated to advancing religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and the family. It was founded in 1989.

Liberty Counsel also represents pro-life centers His Nesting Place in Long Beach and Birth Choice of the Desert in La Quinta.

Payment must be made by June 28, 2019.

“Pro-life pregnancy centers will no longer be compelled to speak a message that goes against their mission to save the lives of babies and women,” Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, Mat Staver, said in a press release applauding the decision.

“This is a great victory for children, mothers, and families,” he added.
