A North Carolina leader for the Republican party issued a hasty apology after tweeting a story that compared transgenders to “perverts” Saturday.

Dallas Woodhouse, the executive director for NC’s Republican Party, apologized for posting an article that accused transgenders of being mentally unstable, reports WBTV.

“Justice Department Kills Obama’s Pervs-In-The-Girls-Bathroom Rule” read the Red State headline. The article went on to describe transgender students as “sexual perverts” and “mentally ill.

“…the Obama administration decreed that the mentally ill and sexual perverts who claim to be mentally ill had to be allowed to use the restrooms and school locker rooms of their preference without regards to the concerns of anyone else,” the article stated.

Woodhouse tweeted out an apology for linking to the Red State article after another publication brought attention to his tweet.

“I should not have re-tweeted this article. I did not read it close enough and I am sorry,” he tweeted. He later posted a link to a Washington Post article that covered the same topic as the Red State article.

Many people on Twitter did not accept his apology, saying that it was unlikely that he didn’t notice the word “pervs” in the headline.
