A North Carolina leader for the Republican party issued a hasty apology after tweeting a story that compared transgenders to “perverts” Saturday.
Dallas Woodhouse, the executive director for NC’s Republican Party, apologized for posting an article that accused transgenders of being mentally unstable, reports WBTV.
“Justice Department Kills Obama’s Pervs-In-The-Girls-Bathroom Rule” read the Red State headline. The article went on to describe transgender students as “sexual perverts” and “mentally ill.
“…the Obama administration decreed that the mentally ill and sexual perverts who claim to be mentally ill had to be allowed to use the restrooms and school locker rooms of their preference without regards to the concerns of anyone else,” the article stated.
Woodhouse tweeted out an apology for linking to the Red State article after another publication brought attention to his tweet.
I should not have re-tweeted this article. I did not read it close enough and I am sorry. https://t.co/GFKS5g164E @WBTV_News

“I should not have re-tweeted this article. I did not read it close enough and I am sorry,” he tweeted. He later posted a link to a Washington Post article that covered the same topic as the Red State article.

Many people on Twitter did not accept his apology, saying that it was unlikely that he didn’t notice the word “pervs” in the headline.
.@DallasWoodhouse Wait, are you saying as a member of the NCGOP you did something impulsively without thinking it through?
I'm shocked.— UNC Humor (@UNC_Humor) February 12, 2017
@DallasWoodhouse The title clearly states "Pervs-in-the-girls bathroom." You could not be bothered to read a HEADLINE?
Recently, another Republican leader came under fire after he told a transgender woman that she had a “mental disorder.” Connie Berchem, a trans woman, emailed her state representatives asking them to repeal North Carolina’s bathroom bill.
State Rep. Mark Brody responded to her email by offering to enact legislation to help her through her “mental disorder.”
“If you are willing I can investigate promoting legislation to help those who suffer from this disorder and with your help can work to alleviate the pain and suffering caused by this disorder,” Brody wrote.
