President Donald Trump said that quarterback for the New England Patriots Tom Brady phoned to congratulate him the night ahead of inauguration.
The duo have had a long-running friendship, often offering praise for one another. Trump has repeatedly called Brady a “winner” and stood by him throughout the deflate-gate scandal.
During a dinner with donors Thursday evening, Trump pointed to Patriots owner Bob Kraft, telling him he has confidence in the team .
“In the audience we have somebody that’s under no pressure whatsoever, because he’s got a great quarterback named Tom Brady and a great coach named Belichick: Bob Kraft,” he said, The Washington Post reports. “Your friend Tom just called. He feels good. He called to congratulate us. He feels good. Good luck. You’re going to do great.”
Trump confirmed both Brady and Patriots coach Bill Belichick voted for him in the election.
While Brady didn’t directly endorse him during the campaign, he did say “it’d be great” if Trump won.
