Sen. Marco Rubio easily beats the two leading Democratic challengers in the Florida Senate race, according to a poll published Wednesday.
The two Democratic challengers to Rubio that have a chance to go on to the general election are Rep. Patrick Murphy and former Rep. Alan Grayson. In a statewide poll consisting of 975 likely voters, Rubio beat Murphy by seven points 47-40, and Grayson by eight points, 48-40.
In the Quinnipiac University poll, researchers reported that when the two Democratic contenders were pitted against other Republican candidates, they won easily.
Forty-four percent of women and 56 percent of men support Rubio in the poll, despite the fact that Rubio currently has a 45 percent approval rating for his job in the Senate.
The approval rating for Rubio differs sharply with that published by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling. Last week, it had Rubio’s approval rating at a dismal 30 percent. In the poll, 93 percent of respondents stated they supported background checks in order to purchase guns. The poll had 500 respondents, compared to the nearly 1,000 in the Quinnipiac poll.
